Welcome to the wonderful world of birth and beyond! Our series of interactive classes will prepare you for the challenges of birth, caring for your baby, breastfeeding and becoming a parent. You’ll gain confidence as you explore up-to-date information, practice new skills, share ideas, and connect with other expecting moms, dads/ support persons in a friendly and supportive environment.
You’ll learn about:
- Caring for your newborn
- Breastfeeding your baby
- Your baby’s birth
- Comfort measures for labour ( Lamaze )
- Medical management of pain and other interventions
- Changes and challenges of becoming parents
Classes are led by experienced and enthusiastic Registered Nurses who have a combined total of 151 years’ experience delivering family centered maternity and newborn care. We are committed to ensuring you receive current, evidence based information so you can make decisions that are right for you and your family. The health unit has a 50- year- long tradition of providing prenatal classes in the Peterborough area. Local doctors, midwives, nurse practitioners along with family and friends recommend our classes. Let us be your trusted source for one of life’s most important journeys.
Date: Classes are offered in two different formats with the class content the same for both options:
- a week night series of five classes that run from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and
- a weekend series of two consecutive Saturdays that run from 9:30 am-3:30 pm.
Ideally, plan on starting your classes early enough to ensure you have finished the series 2-3 weeks before your baby’s due date . Because classes fill up quickly, register for your classes early in pregnancy to ensure you don’t miss out. . Registering well ahead of time also helps ensure we can get you into a series with other expectant parents who are due around the same time as you. To see the upcoming schedule click here.

Fee: $50.00. This includes refreshments, the book Baby’s Best Chance and other resources.
Please let us know if the fee would prevent you from attending, as subsidies are available. We don’t require proof of income or any paperwork.
