Elder Abuse is defined as any action or inaction, by a person in a position of trust, that results in (potential) harm to an older adult.
It can include:
- Physical
- Sexual
- Psychological/emotional (including spiritual)
- Financial
- Neglect
- Denial of civil rights

- Canada wide research completed in the late 1990's indicate 4% of older adults experience or have experienced at least one form of abuse.
- This means there are potentially 1443 older persons in Peterborough County and City living in abusive situations
