The PCGN is a not for profit group of gardeners that advocates for an increased presence of community garden in the City and County of Peterborough. Gleaning
Gleaning – Catch a bus out to a farm to pick fruits and vegetables for free. Farmers donate their extra produce and local churches pay for the buses. Because produce ripens quickly and farmers are never sure when they will have an excess, gleaning trips are usually organized on short notice. Contact Peterborough Gleans at 749-9977 to join up.
LETS Exchange
The LETS Exchange is a barter system that works on green dollars. Participants can buy and sell products and services for green dollars or a combination of green dollars and Canadian dollars. Foods you can buy includes vegetables, meats, breads or baked goods and preserves. Contact the LETS office, 749-3910. Call for office hours.
Collective Kitchens
Meet once a month – to plan and cook 3 to 5 meals to take home. Collective kitchens are supported by a variety of service clubs, faith groups and community organizations so the cost to participants is minimal. Contact Laura Jack at the Peterborough County-City Health Unit, 743-1000.
Come Cook With Us
Free cooking sessions for anyone interested in sharing new recipes, developing skills, learning about nutrition and having fun! The sessions are 4 to 6 weeks long. You will share recipes, prepare a meal, take home cooked food and receive a food voucher. Babies First
Pregnant women have access to the food cupboard, food vouchers, a nurse and a nutritionist.

JustFood Program
Receive healthy, nutritious food and a great newsletter. Two kinds are available each month. The Staples Box holds non-perishable (canned and packaged) groceries as well as some fruit and vegetables. It comes in two sizes : regular - $15.00 and small - $11.00. The Fresh Produce Box is full of just fresh fruit and vegetables. It is available in two sizes: Regular - $20.00 and Small - $12.00. Contact Food Action at the YWCA, 743-3526. Subsidies may be available.
Fresh Produce Box
Take $10 to the Salvation Army the first two weeks of the month, and on the third Wednesday you will get a large box of fruits and vegetables. Contact the Salvation Army at 742-4391.
Kawartha Food Share
Kawartha Food Share is the warehouse and distribution centre for emergency food to local food banks/cupboards and meal programs. Agencies who would like to receive food from us can call us at 745-5377 for a Membership Application. Individuals who need food should contact the food banks.
Food For Kids Peterborough
Many city and county schools have breakfast programs or snack cupboards. Ask your child's principal or teacher, or call the Peterborough County-City Health Unit to find out if your school has a breakfast club. Contact Kris Roberts at 743-1000.
