Diseases - Introduction
The Health Unit investigates diseases of public health significance. These diseases may be easily transmitted from one person to another, cause significant illness or deaths, be monitored for surveillance purposes, or need to have specific public health control measures applied. In Ontario, certain individuals have the duty to report these diseases to the Health Unit. Health Unit staff can provide information on controlling and preventing these diseases.
