Tanning Beds...Why Be careful?

Many people believe that artificial tanning beds, lamps and booths are safer than the sun.  Not so.  Just like the sun, tanning lights and sun lamps emit ultraviolet rays that can cause sunburn, aging skin and increase your risk of skin cancer. There is no safe way to tan.

Artificial Tanning...

  • is a source of ultraviolet radiation, UVA and UVB
  • is not safer than the sun, tanning lamps can give off five times as much UVA as the sun
  • does not protect the skin from burning, provides only a SPF of 2-4
  • can cause serious eye damage
  • increases total exposure of ultraviolet radiation which increases the risk of developing skin cancer

Remember…there is no such thing as a ‘healthy tan’.
