What is the Role of the Peterborough Breastfeeding Coalition?
The Breastfeeding Coalition is comprised of individuals and representatives of various organization and agencies whose goal is to establish breastfeeding as the optimal form of infant nutrition within our community, recommending exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life with appropriate introduction of complementary foods and continued breastfeeding for up to two years and beyond.
The Committee supports implementation of the Baby-Friendly Initiative in order to promote, support, and protect breastfeeding. The Coalition helps to identify community needs and resources; plans and coordinates activities to meet these needs; and provides education based on current research regarding the benefits of breastfeeding.
